Fathers and their Bar Mitzvah age sons  
Sponsored by the Men of Reform Judaism (MRJ), the program is open to the fathers (biological or otherwise) and their sons from any Reform congregation    



When: July 15-22, 2012 (program begins Sunday evening and concludes mid-morning the following Sunday)   

Program Cost:  $2995* for each father/son pair includes 

  • Seven nights of Accommodations   on the campus of the Teton Science SchoolS, located at the foot of the Grant Tetons; TetonScienceBuilding 
  • All meals (kosher-style);
  • National Park entry fees ;
  • Daily Teton Science Schools instruction and TorahTrek guidance;
  • Round trip Shuttle Service from Airport (Jackson Hole) to Teton Science Schools Campus;
  • One afternoon/week-night, participants will have free time and the opportunity to sample the night-life in Jackson, Wyoming, famous for its many art and photography galleries and fine dining; (Dinner at participants’ expense).
  • Airfare is additional - Nearest airport: Jackson Hole, Wyoming

 (* Members of an MRJ affiliated brotherhood can apply for a $200 credit)

Much more than a vacation, the program is designed to positively impact family life at home and enhance the Bar Mitzvah experience.  Through Jewish living, values-oriented nature education, outdoor skills training and practicing tikkun olam with a service project, participants are challenged to grow as Jewish boys and men.  The special moments in Wyoming, shared with his father, become unique, unforgettable memories in the life of a boy becoming a Bar Mitzvah!

Registration Procedures:

This retreat is intended to provide a small group experience and is limited to only 15 pairs of fathers and sons. Registration is on a first come-first served basis.

  • After  the maximum number of pairs is reached, interested participants will be kept on a waiting list.
  • At the time of registration, a non-refundable deposit of $500 is required to hold your reservation;
  • Final payment is due by March 31 and is non refundable after May 1st.
  • After May 1st, a refund is only provided your spot is filled by participants on the waiting list.

Rabbi Mike Comins is the founder of TorahTrek – the Center for Jewish Wilderness (www.TorahTrek.org) and the author of A Wild Faith: Jewish Ways into Wilderness, Wilderness Ways into Judaism (Jewish Lights Publishing; www.AWildFaith.com) and Making Prayer Real: Leading Jewish Spiritual Voices on Why Prayer is Difficult and What to Do about It (Jewish Lights Publishing; www.MakingPrayerReal.com).  A Los Angeles native—former SCFTY advisor as well as Rosh Eidah at URJ Camps Newman and Swig—Mike Comins brings a unique combination of experience and skills to the field he is pioneering: Jewish wilderness spirituality.

Josh Lake is the founder of Outdoor Jewish Adventures (outdoorjewishadventures.com). Josh’s education includes a Master’s Degree in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary, completion of the Informal Jewish Education seminar at Brandies University, Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), and many years of hiking and outdoor experiences.  Josh has spent the last 14 years leading Jewish outdoor excursions across the United States, Canada, Israel, England and even the wilds of New York City and Los Angeles. Josh’s passions are outdoor education and connecting people to spiritual and soulful experiences through outdoor adventures.
